Sad~

So sick and tired of studying... When la exam wanna over!!! Betahan~

Nyways, today's quite a blue day for me coz my housemates, Elaine and Jac are moving out. They finished their final paper yesterday (extremely jealous!!) and are considered "unofficially graduated".

So comes the end of their tenancy in Hentian Kajang with me (I'm still staying there till next year... with new housemates). They were packing today and it makes me feeling kinda sad coz i'm always not in the house... I didn't managed to get any farewell gifts/dinner with them (I'll pay for it during Convo yea... :>) and looking at the gradually empty house, I can't wait for exams to be done!!

Staying with them has been fun! Though most of the times the house is always quiet but I'll miss the times when we'll come out of our "caves" and chat while watching TV or preparing something in the kitchen.

They've always been my "tai ka cheh" or big sisters in the house as I'm always asking them on my studies. They've fervently paid the bills since the time we moved in and I miss the feeling of just giving them the money and let them settle the rest!

So...

(1) Thanks for paying the bills since day 1;
(2) Thanks for cleaning the house when I'm always not around to do so;
(3) Thanks for the books and advises I really needed in my 3rd year!!;
(4) And... thanks for being wonderful and great housemates! I couldn't asked for more.

So...

(1) Good luck in everything you do (esp chambering...Haha...everyone knows the nightmares awaiting there...);
(2) Have a great holiday before starting work;
(3) God bless you guys; and
(4) I'm gonna miss you guys so much!!!

Rumours

On the surface, the book cover looks like something out of a sci-fi movie or something Asimov would write but nope... all wrong. "Rumours of Another World" by Philip Yancey, who wrote the acclaimed "The Jesus I Never Knew", is quite a funny read to me. Why?

Well, it didn't catch my attention in the first place but as I explore further and further into the book and the contents Yancey was trying to express, it really is a fascinating book! Some people might see it as their least favourite Yancey book, but I think it's good as it did opened up my ears and eyes to listen to and see the "rumours of another world" that we often put in a box and pushed it aside somewhere in the store room full of cobwebs.

We always missed out hearing things from the other side of the world. I mean, we even miss out on what out friends have got to say sometimes! The "other" side simply means what God and His kingdom has got to say to us! The loud and noisy world we're living in today has drown out the sound and messages from God and often, we go about our daily activities without getting Him involved or shoving aside His opinions, simply because we fail to hear or see God.

Another thing that really caught my attention in the book is sex (haha...people always get caught up with sex...don't they?) But it's not about the abstinence...bla bla bla thing that turns most people off but it's about why we are so drawn to sex and we never think twice on getting ourselves involved in outside-marriage affairs.

Why? Well, Yancey put it this way.

Sex is about getting closer and intimate with a person. And in a way, we yearn to have sex to cover up our insecurities and loneliness that we have inside. We, humans, yearn to be near God, even if it be unconscious. We'll find all sorts of way to get that feeling or "euphoria" and sex is the nearest outlet. But having sex, something so intimate with a stranger won't give us that. In order to know someone better, we need to communicate, understand and learn about him/her and sex just won't give us that. It'll just be another random physical act of fleeting pleasure, just like how people are addicted to drugs. They just want the "high", to draw closer to something that we just can't reach in reality.

And it can get dangerous.

Go read the book. I recommend it. It may be dry in the beginning. Just like how "Prayer" was for me, but it gets deeper and interesting as you read on. You might discover a lot of new things by reading it too! I've discovered a great deal of American history and balck slavery in this book. How slaves used to sing songs about being free because Christ set them free... and they meant every single word of it!

How do we sing our songs today? Of being suicidal, broken hearted because you're being jilted, killing and cursing... haha! I'm remembering what Joel Osteen said. "You're speaking all these things into being! You're actually cursing yourselves by saying it out loud!". Bill Cosby in Oprah also said something like that and instead of wasting so much time and energy of these rubbish, might as well channel those energy into good use and into positive-vibes!

Yup!! The world does need a lot of positive-vibes now!

Far longer than forever

This is my idea

Someday My Prince Will Come

once upon a dream

Nostalgia

After being depressed and miserable the whole day because of Company Law exam, I decided to reward myself by indulging in a marathon of Walt Disney's classic Princess animations.

So I basically spent the whole day watching Swan Princess and the sequels, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, and last but not least, Cinderella.

Giler~ That's what you must be thinking.

And somehow I just realized, or maybe it's too long since I've watched it... That's it's my 1st time watching Sleeping Beauty!!! Hahaa!!! But the final scene looks familiar so maybe I've watched it before...

I simply love all the songs in Swan Princess:

(1) Opening: This Is My Idea
(2) Far Longer Than Forever
(3) Practice, Practice, Practice!

Snow White:

(1) I Wish
(2) Someday My Prince Will Come (tell me which girl won't know this song??!! But I would like to make a tribute to a dear departed friend, Veronica. I still can hear this song ringing in my ears during your memorial service... Missing you lots~)

Sleeping Beauty:

(1) Once Upon A Dream (yup, the one and only song!)

I can simply conclude that amongst all, Sleeping Beauty's the best! I love the storyline, simple yet sends a powerful message of true love, courage and good triumph over evil. Better than Harry Potter!!

I also love the way they drew Princess Aurora and Prince Philip. Perfect! From the face to the costume!! Super!! Splendid!!

The songs they sang in the classics (esp. the older ones like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty) sounds ethereal and somewhat eery when you listen to the hummings and high-pitch voices of the heroine....

Nevertheless, all these songs really brought back all the sweet memories of my childhood and also the dreams I harbour as a girl...

Looking for my prince, living my dreams and to be surrounded by love, beauty and kindness.

You don't get such things anymore now, don't you? Not even on TV or movies anymore. Most of the Disney movies are all on talking animals (Ratatouille was good! So was The Incredibles!) but... no more fairy tales like the good ol' days (Not forgetting memorable and evergreen songs)... Huhu

So now the only thing I can do is dream a good dream and walk with my prince I knew in once upon a dream....

*Sigh*

Rice Become Porridge

As the ol' Malay proverb goes, "Nasi sudah jadi bubur".

When rice turns into porridge, nothing can be done to salvage it or turn it back into rice again.

And that is exactly my situation now... Huhu... *Depress*

Blew my Company Law. This is the first time ever in the history of the exams that I can't finish answering 2 out of 4 questions and Oh Man!! God bless me indeed...

Haven't slept the whole night studying like mad. Regretted the fact I didn't start early. My answer sheet...

Horrible.

Rod Stewart sang, "I don't wanna talk about it".

Yes. I don't wanna talk about it.

Too depressing.

Now I'll just put my hopes in God, praying for his grace and mercy to be with me.

Not forgetting to ask for His shalom.

Peace that no one can give.

p.s. I almost strangled my nephew for making such a racket this afternoon. Screaming & wailing like crazy. Dah la I under stress~ Aiyo~

The time of the Year... again~

Man, I've always hated and dread this time of the year.... Final exams!! Where I won't get enough sleep and entertainment. To make matters worse, I have to complete my thesis at the same time too this year! Aiyo~ Tasukete!!! HELP!!

But at the same time too, I'm kinda glad that I only have to sit for 4 papers. Waliao~ record man!! Usually i have 6-8 papers to sit for! And each time exam approaches, I'll always asked myself, "Why did I EVER apply for law school?!!"

So, please please please (!!!) pray for me... I haven't got the knack/semangat to study at all... another major problem for me but I know, Jesus' always watching over me. But then , faith without deeds is dead!! No point sitting there and praying like mad when you don't help yourself at all!!

Here my exam schedule:

23/4/08 (dats tmr!!) - Company and Partnership Law
30/4/08 - Land Law
5/5/08 - Equity & Trust
8/5/08 - Islamic Jurisprudence

Hopefully i'll be able to go through this madness, and i still have to rush like mad to get the Tasmania exchange done.

I HATE REDTAPES!!! ABSOLUTELY!!! TOTEMO KIRAI!!!

If if anybody so happens to be in the government/politics reads this... MALAYSIA BOLEH indeed...

I simply don't understand why students can't deal with the university and then the university just have to tell the Kementerian that we are going out of the country as students!!

Come on man, if you big shots can get out of the country hassle-free, i don't understand why we can't do the same!!! I felt like I'm a prisoner within my own country!! Where's my freedom of movement!!! Cakap tak serupa bikin!

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TREATED LIKE PRIMARY SCHOOL KIDS! (Raise yer hands if you agree with me!)

Hey, if the private sectors can do this, why can't the government!!

Zen Zen Wakarimasen!!

Absolutely...Holy Spirit

I absolutely love this song, Holy Spirit by Planet Shakers from one of their older albums, Evermore. It moves my in spirit and I can feel His presence and hear His still, small voice talking to me. It's a wonderful feeling indeed to know that I am loved and cared for.

Absolutely~

Holy Spirit
You're all I need
You're all I breathe
It's You that I'm thirsting for
It's You I seek
On bended knee
It's You that I'm longing for
I want to worship You only
In spirit and in truth
Longing for Your Anointing
To fall on me
Let it fall from heaven
Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit
Come pour out Your oil anointing
We need Your power
We need Your strength
Come pour it out Lod
Open Heaven

New "Toys"

Tired like mad today...

After rushing around UKM to get things done... rush back home to finish a proposal with crept out of nowhere.

Then rush to KTM station to get my new "baby" - external hard disk... hoho...

After searching high & low for it, i decided to get Hitachi 160GB SATA. The differences between SATA and IDE caused me a big headache coz i seriously am a computer illiterate. My cousin-in-law told me to get Hitachi IDE but the sales guy recommended Western Digital SATA. What the heck man~

Haha...the best part was when dat sales guy challenged me. "So, does your friend have better knowledge on this than me?".

"Erm... yes. He's a software engineer..."

Goodness...i could have sworn dat guy was so insulted he almost chased me away from the place. Haha~ No offence yea... Honest answer mah... you ask i answer la. As simple as that....huhu

After Low Yat...rush to KLCC to meet my brother. Mana tau dat fella lambat 1 hour! Pig~ Walked around KLCC 2x kaki pun mau patah.

Hallelujah! At last he came~ mana tau more window shopping from top to bottom of KLCC. Dah la i haven't ate anything since breakfast... Aiyo~

Finally manage to drag him to get my shoes so I can eat.

Isetan (surprisingly) has lotsa nice shoes with reasonable prices! Serious!! Same model in Studio R/Stadium/Nike/Adidas/Reebok outlets but waaaaaay cheaper than d retails!

After deciding between Nike's Air Force-1, Cortez and Dunk... I decided to get the Nike Cortez. Yes... I can hear the guys cursing me for not taking AF-1.... AF-1's a little to big and bulky for my feet and Nike Dunk no more size left... so take Cortez lo...

Yay! finally get to makan! So happy!! Ureshii yo!! Initially wanna go Kim Gary's but then my bro malas wanna walk to Avenue K so went to Genki Sushi instead. *Bleks* not nice...i miss Kim Gary's beef noodles... Been craving for beef the whole day dy.

Nyways, in the midst of my shopping spree, managed to bump into Yuan Lin in the KTM. Then bumped into Zameera at the KL Sentral Monorail station. In case you dunno who the heck are they... They're my former schoolmates in MGSS. Haven't seen them in ages! Especially Zameera! Haha...still remember when she was yelling like mad at me... Pai seh man~ in public summore...haha!

Good! Great day for me even though super exhausted, not to mention I'm broke as well and I can't feel my legs.

I need spa now~

Simply Beautiful~

I've finished watching the entire anime called "La Corda D'oro" which is a story of a girl, who has no talent in anything whatsoever, bumps into a music fairy and thus, was bestowed with a magical violin which any Tom, Dick and Harry can play on.

She was also "forcibly" enrolled into a concours, with other super-gifted-talented students from the music department and life was never the same again after that.

This is one of the best shojo anime I've watched so far after Ouran High School Host Club (which was super comedic). This anime is touching, showcasing all the beautiful classical music that I've never appreciated and boy! was it excellent~ Aiyo~ heart-melting la~

Not forgetting all the bishonens and super leng-chais (everyone's straight in this anime), it'll simply add more colours into your life in case you never liked classical music like me.

The best ensemble in this anime was the "Ave Maria" (by Schubert) violin duet between heroine- Hino Kahoko and Tsukimori Len. Simply amazing! Click at the left-hand side of my blog to listen to it.

Girls - You'll simply melt listening to this piece... Trust me...

The other ensemble I liked most was at the end of the anime, episode 25 in which the boys, in honour of their lady-love, Kahoko, played a quintet version of Salut D'armour (Love's Greeting), a composition by Sir Edward Elgar and wah~ *speechless*

I wish they have a complete soundtrack of this anime.

Marvellous!

Bravo!

I'm So Tired

My sentiments now exactly...

A song I always like to sing when I'm tired...by the Beatles. It expresses everything i wanna say when I'm dead tired~

I'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink
I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink
No,no,no.

I'm so tired I don't know what to do
I'm so tired my mind is set on you
I wonder should I call you but I know what you would do
You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've gotfor a little peace of mind

I'm so tired, I'm feeling so upset
Although I'm so tired I'll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid get.

You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain

You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind
I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind
I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind

Busy, busy, busy...

Busy looking at tour websites telling me how to go about Hobart, Tasmania and the best places to visit. I'm really excited rite now to just my feet there (although lotsa restlessness and uncertainties... It's good to be in Malaysia. Winter clothing bapak expensive man!)

Now that I've too many sweaters...I'll be getting a comfy walking shoes to ganti my worn-out sneakers...not to forget a nice jacket to keep myself from freezing. And as food is expensive, it's time for me to go on a diet over there.

I know I shouldn't be busy doing all these things 1st since I have my thesis still looming over my head, not to mention exams coming... Die la~ haha!

Excited! Aper nak buat~

The Best!!

North and South.

The best Brit period drama I've ever watched!! Better than all the Jane Austen adaptations! The director did a good job in creating such a intense, passionate and compelling drama based on the Elizabeth Gaskell's novel with the same title.

Mr. Thornton is such a hunk! Waliao~ Can't get enough of him even though he's sort of a anti-hero in this story. Perfectly cast. As well as the heroine, Margaret Hale. She's so beautiful!

This whole drama is about the realities of the North and South of Britain during the Victorian era which existed with completely different cultures and industries. The Southerns were the laid-back and wealthier community whereas the Northerns were seen as uncouth and uneducated, living a hard life with the air constantly choked with putrid industrial smoke.

The Hales were uprooted by the family patron, Mr. Hale to Milton after quitting the parish as a clergyman as it was against his conscience. (Long story...i suggest you go read the book)

The Hales (esp. the women) found it hard to adapt to the hard life of Milton, filled with poverty and depressing. This setting reminds me of the setting in the book Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt.

Margaret met Mr. John Thornton, a wealthy industrialist who owns a cotton-mill and there were misunderstandings between them as Margaret was the romantic and idealist type, full of compassion for the poor people in Milton (mostly mills workers) while Mr. Thornton was the realist who wouldn't bother showing mercy to his workers. (actually he does but if he's too soft, he deemed that everyone would soon start to step on his head) Thus, Margaret thought of him as a cruel employer.

Later on as the story developed, the workers went on strike and you can see the historical side of this drama as it shows how unionism came to be, of how desperate the lower-class community were in trying to live and from the viewpoint of the employer in such a case. The whole employer-employee relationship in this movie was so intense, you would not want to budge from your seats at all!

The reason behind the workaholic and grim Mr. Thornton was because his father lost all the family fortune in a speculation. Mr. Thornton was taken off from school and was forced to work hard like his present employees just to build up the empire again, and fending for his mother and sister after his father died.

See how Margaret and Mr. Thornton's love story developed in the drama. Simply breathtaking~

Alright, I wouldn't wanna spoil the whole drama for you. All you have to do is go on youtube and watch it. Believe me, you wouldn't regret it at all. I watched it the whole night until 5.30 am in the morning.

I'm going Crazy!

I've been indulging myself non-stop with Jane Austen's adaptation on youtube!! Arghh!!! I've just completed watching Persuasion and Mansfield Park and I think I'm gonna get all her books!! It's wonderful!! So dreamy~ Hahaha....

I didn't know BBC came up with a complete adaptation of all of Jane Austen's writings! Can't wait to watch the rest of it! It's really super. Now I'm hooked to this after anime. Oh no!!! And my thesis is suffering from my lack of attention~

I'm gonna watch Emma after this...hehehe!

Sense & Sensibility: Comment #2

I've finished watching both (!) the 2008 miniseries and also the 1995 movie and I've got to confess, they are both good!!!!!!!! Excellent! Fabulous! Marvellous! Romantic!!!

I'm quite torn apart on who will make the better out of the characters as all the actors were splendid!

Elinor Dashwood: I preferred Hattie Morahan than Emma Thompson on this one because I think Emma Thompson's a little to old for the character. But feature wise, I would say Emma looks prettier than Hattie.

Marianne Dashwood: Both Kate Winslet and Charity Wakefield were great portraying Marianne as a headstrong, idealistic and emotional girl. But I felt the miniseries gave more "life" and drama to Marianne's character, especially when she was jilted by Willoughby.

Edward Ferrars: Both Hugh Grant and Dan Stevens were dashing and handsome. However, I felt both did not really bring out the character of Edward. Overall, Dan Stevens make a better Edward than Hugh Grant. Sorry Hugh...you're a little too "kayu"....

Colonel Brandon: ALAN RICKMAN's the man!!! Sexy! Both in voice and appearance! muahaha! Although I find it difficult to understand his accent compared to David Morrissey.

Mrs Dashwood: Well, I find the "mom" character were quite different in both series. The older movie portrays the mom as quite light-headed, temperamental and insolence at times but the new version portrays the mom as someone who keeps her head, have a quiet demeanor and calm. Haha! Both have their own advantages.

Mr. Palmer: Definitely HUGH LAURIE (of House MD fame in case you dunno). I didn't notice it was him as he was way thinner, has black hair and... younger. Haha! But he also played the sarcastic son-in-law of Mrs. Jennings.

Willoughby: I've got to say Dominic Cooper in the new version makes a better villain than the 1995 movie. Wah~ really...If you watch the new version, you'll definitely feel like giving him a nice punch that'll break his nose.

Lucy Steele: Daisy Haggard (2008) makes a very cunning and malicious Ms Steele and compared to the older version as the older version portrayed her as someone ditzy. The new version made her look calculative and how she ditched Edward when he was disinherited and married the brother instead.

Robert Ferrars: Definitely the old version. Richard Lumsden did a good job of making Robert "sissy-fied" and plain ridiculous.

Fanny Ferrars-Dashwood: Both version gave a great performance as the evil sister-in-law to the Dashwood girls.

Margaret Dashwood: The youngest daughter. Both played the character very well but I've gotta say the older version, played by Emilie Francois was "brattier" than the other version.

Alright. That's all for my analysis. I'll stop here or it'll never end. Allow me to sum up.

I love the older version as it gave a classic view of it but then the newer version on BBC would be far more entertaining and addictive as it has more drama and suspense to it as compared to the "gentlemanly" version of S&S. And I can't get enough of Hugh Laurie. Fantastic actor.

Jane Austen Cravings

Winding down after exam could never been better than watching another BBC version of a Jane Austen's adaptation. If you haven't watched their version of Pride and Prejudice, I suggest strongly that you would do so right now on youtube as I personally think it is better than the movie itself! (Collin Farrel is the perfect Mr. Darcy that most girls would die for~)

Now I'm watching Sense and Sensibility. There are 2 version, the older one starring Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson and not forgetting Alan Rickman (of Prof. Snape fame in Harry Potter). I'm currently watching the newer version (fresh from the oven!) and I've got to say the timeline and music score appeals to me more than the older version as the latter version can get tedious after quite some time.

Jane Austen wrote quite a number of really great and romantic novels.

Caution: The English is quite deep but it gives it better effect and unlike sleazy romance novels off the rack in MPH, Jane Austen's stories are realistic, written accordingly with her time and the heroines portrayed in her books are pretty, intelligent and unafraid to embrace liberty (esp. in speaking her mind), which was quite unusual for women of her time to do so.

Recommended readings:

(1) Pride and Prejudice (but of course!!! I always loved the ending)
(2) Emma (I read it halfway but couldn't finish it as it's quite draggy in the first half. Reminds me of some boring EPL matches on TV)
(3) Sense and Sensibility (To be honest, haven't read it myself)

However, critics have always mentioned that Emma was Jane Austen's best work but the popular one would definitely fall into the hands of Mr. Darcy of P&P...Haha!

I'm suddenly recalling and getting addicted to all these classics as they were all so beautifully written. Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre (tragic giler the story...!) and also Wuthering Height (this wan lagi super tragic!!!) were also my favourites.

Somehow, I wish young girls (and boys too!) nowadays would read all of these classics and not come to hate them as it really is beautifully composed, rather than reading yet another gossip on Britney Spears in entertainment magazines. (No input at all....what's the point...)

Alright. No more lectures on classics. I wanna resume my S&S now.

Sense and Sensibility BBC 2008
